Shizuku setup guide for beginners
Set up Shizuku, one tap at a time.
Shizuku is an app that lets other apps use the same powers a computer gets when it is connected to your phone with a USB cable (that is called adb), without rooting the phone. It can't do anything you don't approve app by app, and it stops every time the phone restarts.
- No root needed
- No computer on Android 11 or newer
- Every app asks you first
- Stops when the phone restarts
Who made this guide
An independent guide. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with RikkaApps, the makers of Shizuku. The official site is shizuku.rikka.app and the code is on GitHub. This guide was written by Marko Zanoski, who makes two apps that can use Shizuku. Every fact here comes from Shizuku's own manual, its GitHub issues, Google's Android docs and the phone makers' help pages, with links under each part.
Is it safe?
Short answer: yes, if you install the official app and only allow apps you trust. Shizuku is not root. It only has the powers adb has, every app must ask you first, and Shizuku itself is gone after a restart. Changes an app makes through it can stay, so undo those in that app.
Which way should I use?
There are three ways to start Shizuku. Pick the one that matches your phone. Not sure which Android version you have? Find out in a minute.
Android 11 or newer
Use Wireless debugging. No computer needed, only a Wi-Fi connection. You pair once, then tap Start after every restart.
Wireless debuggingAndroid 10 or older, Huawei, HarmonyOS, TVs
Use a computer with a USB cable. It works on any Android version. You run one command after every restart.

Where to download Shizuku
GitHub releases
The newest official build is always on Shizuku's GitHub page. Download the file that ends in .apk under the latest release and open it.
Google Play
Easier to install and update, but the Play build has lagged far behind GitHub. For a long time Play served 13.5.4, which breaks on Android 16 QPR1 and One UI 8.5. If you have one of those, take the GitHub build.
Shizuku on Google PlaySwitching from Play to GitHub? Uninstall the Play version first. The two are signed differently, so one can't update the other.
Watch out for fake copies. The official app id is moe.shizuku.privileged.api. You can see it at the end of the Google Play page address. Only install Shizuku from GitHub releases or Google Play, never from a download site or a modified copy. Community forks exist; this guide covers only the official app.
