1. Turn on Developer options
Open Settings.
Go to Settings, then About phone, then Software information and tap Build number 7 times.
Enter your PIN if asked. You see You are now a developer!
Developer options now sits at the very bottom of the main Settings list, below About phone.
Turn on USB debugging.

2. Extra switches this brand needs
Open Settings, then Security and privacy, then Auto Blocker.
Turn Auto Blocker off. From One UI 6.1.1 it is on by default on new setups, and it blocks commands sent over a USB cable. It can also grey out USB debugging. Phones updated from older versions keep their earlier setting.
On the same page, make sure Maximum restrictions is off (One UI 6.1.1 or newer).
Some users report that Auto Blocker also gets in the way of Wireless debugging on some builds, so turn it off for the first setup either way. You can turn it back on later, but then commands over a USB cable stop working again.

3. Pair and start
Follow the Wireless debugging steps. On a computer instead? The computer steps.
- Samsung cuts network access for apps in the background. Pair in split screen, with Shizuku on one half and Wireless debugging on the other, and remove every battery limit for Shizuku first.
- The Developer options button inside Shizuku does nothing on some A series phones. Open Settings yourself.
4. Keep Shizuku from stopping
Open Settings, then Apps, then Shizuku, then Battery and choose Unrestricted.
Open Settings, then Battery, then Background usage limits. On One UI 6.0 or older: Settings, then Battery and device care, then Battery, then Background usage limits.
Add Shizuku to Never sleeping apps.
Check Shizuku is not in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps.
Optional: turn off Put unused apps to sleep.
One UI 8 (Android 16): in Developer options, set Default USB configuration to Charging phone only. On many phones a new choice Debugging only appears and is selected when you open the menu again. Either keeps Shizuku alive.
Samsung can put apps back on the sleeping lists after a firmware update, so check again after updates. Need file transfer too? Users report that dialling *#0808# and choosing MTP + ADB allows file transfer without stopping Shizuku.
Also do the four steps every phone needs: unrestricted battery, Disable adb authorization timeout, No data transfer as the USB default, and leaving debugging on. They are on the Wireless page.

5. Known problems on Samsung Galaxy
One UI 8: stops when the screen locks or turns off
Set the USB default to Charging phone only (or Debugging only), as in step 4.

One UI 6.1.1: stops on lock (Fold6, S24 Ultra)
The same USB setting fixes it.

One UI 8.5: exits about a minute after starting
Install Shizuku 13.6.0 from GitHub instead of the outdated Play build.

Android 16: still stops
One user also had to turn off adaptive optimization and background usage limits under Settings, then Device care, then Battery. Reported by one user; try it if nothing else works.

Secure Folder
Shizuku doesn't run in Secure Folder. Use the main profile.

Foldables: folding stops Shizuku
On the Z Fold 2, folding or unfolding restarted adb and stopped Shizuku. Nothing can be done about it; start it again.

Pairing never works after Smart Switch
Settings moved over with Smart Switch broke pairing on a Galaxy S25. Only a factory reset without restoring settings fixed it. Reported by one user, and a true last resort.

Developer options shortcut in Shizuku does nothing (A series)
Open Settings yourself, or start from a computer with the View command line.

6. Turn it all back off
First, in each app that used Shizuku, undo what it changed, while Shizuku still runs. Some changes an app makes through Shizuku stay after Shizuku stops. Firewall and Fileglow have their own steps.
In Shizuku, switch off every app in the list of authorized apps.
Stop Shizuku with its stop option, or restart the phone.
Open Developer options, then Wireless debugging, then Paired devices, tap the shizuku entry, then Forget.
In Developer options, tap Revoke USB debugging authorizations. This removes every paired computer and device.
Turn Auto Blocker back on in Settings, then Security and privacy, then Auto Blocker, and Maximum restrictions if you used it.
Remove Shizuku from Never sleeping apps.
Turn off Disable adb authorization timeout if you turned it on, and set Default USB configuration back to File transfer if you want.
Turn off Wireless debugging, then USB debugging.
Turn off the switch at the top of Developer options: Settings, then Developer options.
Set Shizuku's battery setting back to the default (Optimized) if you like.
Uninstall Shizuku the normal way if you don't need it any more.
